I work on a contract for the Federal Government. All the time, people ask me what I do and act all “oh, it must be exciting to work up at #####. I bet you see lots of secret stuff.” No one seems to believe me when I tell them the dark secret truth about my job:
It’s boring as hell.
Let me draw a little mental picture for those of you who still don’t believe me.
Imagine yourself in a room. You have no idea how large the room is, because you’re only allowed to look at a single corner of it. The entire decor is a mish-mash of light browns and tans, with no redeeming aesthetic value. There’s a TV directly in front of you that only plays that multi-color test pattern from the ’80s. Doing anything besides servicing critical bodily functions is forbidden. Your only respite is to be occassionally disturbed by people you would run away from if you met them in public. Suicide is ruled out because you can’t bring any weapons onto the property. You must spend tens hours at a time in this room before you’re allowed to leave.
Ok, read that again and really let it sink in. That’s more exciting than my job.
sigh
Still trying to come up with a design idea for the site in general. The content system on the homepage is gonna have to go, so I want to come up with a coherent way to integrate all the (current and planned) site content into a single style. Coding won’t be a problem, but graphic layout isn’t my strong suite, heh.
I always kinda wondered what the lyrics meant to Jay-Z’s Izzo. Fortunately, MusicCritic.com has translated them for me. They translate a number of other confusing songs too, so check out the links at the bottom of the article.
Killer gerbils, sexy homicidal maniacs, crazed mad-scientists, psychotic mothers, hapless computer people. What do they all have in common? Only Helen Narbonic knows for sure. But you can bet it won’t be good for us computer people.
As Ev of Blogger mentions here, there’s a neat little script which will let you spellcheck anything you highlight. It requires Internet Explorer 5.x+ and MS Word to function – read more about it.
BLOG NEWS: Who Knows is now KickIdle.com Blog. Update your bookmarks appropriately. The old site was really just a freebie website I have for using Earthlink.net dailup, so it’s more fitting to host this on my real site. Now if only the real site had some purpose, eh?
